Antique Persian Malayer 3'7"×16'0"
C. 1900 The Herati allover pattern is probably the most popular of Malayer styles and this antique kenare (runner) shows it particularly well on the slightly abrashed, dark indigo blue ground. A single column of concave diamonds, rosettes, lancet leaves and small palmettes runs up the centre of the field, with accents in green, red, rust, ecru and goldenrod, all natural dyes. Madder red main border with bracketed rosettes. Cream minors with double bent chains of stylized flowers. Medium weave, cotton foundation. Good condition.
