Antique Persian Luri Horseblanket 5'5"×5'5"
This antique Persian carpet is attributed to the Luri (or Lori) tribe of southwestern Persia. The Luri were originally of Turkish and Caucasian origins but moved to the mountainous southern regions of Persia several centuries ago. Their weavings display many motifs that are now common among Persian carpets and display the influences of tribe’s northern origins. This piece is an example of the type of functional tribal textiles that are now extraordinarily decorative and collectible. This horse blanket would have been draped over a tribesman’s horse’s back underneath the saddle. Today it makes for a unique and decorative wall hanging.
