Antique Persian Serapi 9'0"×11'2"
This room-sized Serapi carpet is an excellent example of late 19th century weaving from the tribal region covering Northwestern Iran and the Southern Caucasus. Carpets such as this are appreciated for their earthy color palettes, tribal and city influenced designs, and superb quality of construction. This piece has a very protoypical Serapi design, featuring a central medallion and four large cornor spandrels, primarily in ivory, and a red main field, all decorated with a stylized floral motif.
