Antique Persian Qashqa’i 5'4"×7'0"
This antique Persian rug was woven in the southwestern area of modern-day Iran in the early 1900s by members of the Qashqa’i tribe. The Qashqa’i are a nomadic tribe inhabiting the southwestern parts of modern-day Iran. Their origins can be traced to Turkic tribes of the central asian steppes which migrated west beginning around the 13th or 14th centuries – possibly catalyzed by Mongol invasions under Ghengis Khan. Traditional Qashqa’i carpets and textiles reflect faint traces of their Turkmen origins, along with Caucasian and Persian influences.
