Joseph W. Fell
Collection
In 1998, Minasian Rug Company
began a fruitful collaboration with Joseph W. Fell to house and
maintain his inventory of fine antique rugs, carpets and textiles.
Prior to that time, Mr. Fell had been for 35 years Chicago’s premiere
private dealer of Oriental rugs and textiles. He began his collection
in the early 1960s and, as often happens with serious collectors, he
became a noted dealer of fine and ethnographic textiles and carpets
from Persia, the Caucasus, India, Central Asia and China. His longtime
association as a trustee of The Textile Museum in Washington, DC has
enhanced his reputation as a scholar, lecturer and advisor to many rug
and textile collectors. Mr. Fell is still active as a collector and he
collaborates with Minasian Rug Company as a regular consultant and
curator of educational exhibitions of Oriental rugs and textiles.
Currently the Joseph W. Fell Collection
at Minasian Rug Company comprises nearly 500 antique rugs, carpets and
textiles from all over the world. The collection is particularly noted
for its Turkmen and Kurdish tribal weavings, South-West Persian rugs
and trappings and also Caucasian and Anatolian rugs and flatweaves.
Remarkably, there are also rare weavings from cultures in Central
Asia, the Far East and central and southern Europe. The staff at
Minasian Rug Company will be delighted to share these treasures with
you in their galleries in Evanston.
